My name is Mrs. Denise Stevenson. I grew up in Schuyler and graduated from Schuyler Central High School. I attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated with an Elementary Education/Early Childhood degree. I received my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Wayne State College. I completed the Mastering the Arts program through Wayne State College. I have my Dual Language Certification through University of California San Diego. In the spring and summer of 2022 I worked with the Nebraska Department of Education and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC to develop culturally inclusive teaching materials for k-3 social studies. During the ‘22-23 school year, my students and I received the Renaissance Honor Roll Award for STAR assessments, myON, AR, and Freckle. I am very proud of them for accomplishing those awards!
I will be teaching dual language again this year, and I love it! It is a fantastic program for students to be in, because they are learning two languages and making connections between those languages. Prior to teaching dual language, I taught a combination of kindergarten, first, and second grades at Richland. My very first teaching position was at 11R, which was country school north of Rogers. My passion is to get kids hooked on books, so I have a “mini” library (my husband would say I have a book problem) in my classroom! I love to find books that students are interested in and love to share the books that I love to read with them!
I live on a farm a few miles from the Richland School. My husband, Ken, is a farmer. I have two daughters. My oldest, Rylee, graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. My other daughter, Emily, is attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. I enjoy gardening, reading, watching movies, traveling, and being with my family. My parents still live in Schuyler. I still consider Schuyler my “home”.
