Welcome to the Special Education Department
It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the Special Education Director for Schuyler Community Schools. The three most important attributes that you need to know about me are:
#1. I am a true Iowa farm girl at heart. Growing up on a farm with remarkable parents, I learned the meaning of having faith, responsibility, work ethic, compassion and a true respect for everything and everyone around me. Unsurprisingly, I married a Colfax County farmer and we were blessed with two boys. My boys live, breathe and eat farming as one is a cowboy/farmer and one is a diesel ag mechanic. My cowboy has been married to the most sweet and adorable cowgirl for a year! (And my true relaxation is to bake and share with family and friends!)
#2. I am a true life-long learner. After graduating from Harlan Community Schools, I earned my elementary degree, my special education degree and a minor in psychology from Dana College. On one of the most exciting day ever, I was offered my first teaching job at "the pink school" (Fisher's #24) as the K-2 teacher. Numerous years later, I earned my Master's Degree in Elementary Education Administration which gave me the opportunity to become an elementary principal. My most recent challenge is learning the whole world of being a Special Education Director.
#3. I am committed to ensuring the success of all students in every educational setting. One of my favorite quotes is "Teaching is not a profession, it is a passion!". I have dedicated my last 38 years in education to "my kids" in the Schuyler Community Schools system. I have the utmost belief in our teaching staff, our support staff, Board of Education and Administrative Team to develop the most meaningful curriculum and provide the best learning environment for our students. I have been extremely humbled and honored by all of learners and educators who have forever touched my life!!
